Barcaldine is a suburb of Central, Queensland and
is about 890 kms west-northwest of QLD's capital
city of Brisbane. In the 2011 Australian census the
population of Barcaldine was 1,655 when there
were 834 Females and 821 Males living there. The
median age for people living in Barcaldine was 37.
Barcaldine is a wool growing and catlle raising
district. The town is well known for its famous Tree
of Knowledge. The 150-year-old ghost gumtree is a
memorial to the shearers who held their strike
meetings there.
