Chewton is a town in central Victoria, Australia in
the Shire of Mount Alexander local government
area, 116 kilometres north west of the state capital,
Melbourne. At the 2006 census, Chewton had a
population of 403.
Chewton is a charming old goldmining village on
the Pyrenees Highway in Victoria's Central
Highlands. Chewton is located 4 km south-east of
Castlemaine and 115 km north-west of Melbourne.
It is a settlement with a strong and definite sense
of identity and residents are likely to resist the
notion that they are a satellite of Castlemaine.
