Smithton is the commercial centre of the North
West Coast and the last stop before Arthur River –
and the beginning of the Tarkine wilderness.
Surrounded by lush green fields fed by the rains of
the Roaring Forties, Smithton has plenty of in-town
and nearby attractions. Smithton is a 1-hr drive
(86 km) from Burnie.
At the 2011 census, Smithton had a population of
3,935. Smithton is the administrative centre of the
Circular Head Council. Smithton has a rich
sporting and social culture, and the region is noted
for its natural beauty.
