Penong is a suburb of West Coast, South Australia
and is about 616 kms west-northwest of SA's capital
city of Adelaide. In the 2011 Australian census the
population of Penong was 343 when there were
143 Females and 200 Males living there. The
median age for people living in Penong was 38.
Penong is a small South Australian town on the
Nullarbor Plain. Its location on the Eyre Highway
makes it a popular rest-stop for travelers. Penong
is the closest town to the Chadinga Conservation
Park and Lake MacDonnell, which has rich
reserves of salt and gypsum. The town is 20 km
north of Cactus Beach, a popular surfing beach.
