The town of Balaklava (population 1827, postcode
5461) is located in South Australia, 92 kilometres
north of Adelaide in the Mid North region. It is 25
kilometres (16 mi) east of Port Wakefield.
Balaklava is set on the Wakefield River in an area
dominated by traditional wheat and sheep farms.
The town hosts an annual Balaklava Cup horse
racing carnival in August which attracts
approximately 12,000 spectators from across the
region who come to enjoy quality racing, fashion,
food and wine. The Agricultural Show in September
is another major event, showcasing the regions
achievements in agriculture, equestrian and arts.
