Ellalong is a locality in the City of Cessnock local
government area in the Hunter Region of New
South Wales, Australia. At the 2011 census, the
Ellalong township had a population of 789
Ellalong is a town within the local government area
of the City of Cessnock in the Hunter Region of
New South Wales. The Ellalong area covers
approximately 1,950 square metres of land and is
about 40 kilometres west of Newcastle. Mining
used to be the major industry in the area
surrounding Ellalong but technological
developments led to the closing of most of the
mines in the area. With the decline of mining, the
wine industry began booming.
