Wilcannia is located 948 km north west of Sydney
via the Great Western, Mitchell and Barrier
Highways. Wilcannia is only 78 m above sea-level
and the average rainfall is 252 mm per annum.
Wilcannia is a historic Darling River port town in
Outback NSW, 200 km east of Broken Hill and part
of the White Cliffs area. At the 2011 census,
Wilcannia had a population of 604.
The surrounding area of Wilcannia is very sparsely
settled by pastoralists who have large land
holdings, used primarily to run sheep. These
holdings fall in the Western Division and the
majority are held as 99-year leases.
